The Clemson softball team notched another win in Clemson’s dominant weekend across all sports, defeating the Indiana Hoosiers 11-5 on 12 hits in game three of the Tiger Invitational. Clemson has won its 10th game in a row and now sits at 13-6 on the season.
The Tigers were powered by second baseman Maddie Moore’s second-inning home run, her fourth of the early season. Moore was a triple away from the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a single, double, home run and three RBIs.
Senior catcher Aby Vieira recorded three RBIs on four hits, including two doubles that plated Clemson’s ninth and 10th runs.
Senior pitcher Reese Basinger struggled to find her groove early in the game, as the Hoosiers tagged her for three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks in the first three innings. However, Basinger settled in and earned her fourth win of the season. She would allow one more earned run and would finish her day in the fifth inning.
The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board early. Two walks and a double by Moore, her third of the season, loaded the bases for freshman Sam Minish. Minish responded with a sacrifice fly, bringing Alex Brown home and giving the Tigers the early advantage.
Minish, batting .393 on the season, went 1-for-1 with a double and two runs scored against the Hoosiers.
Adversity didn’t faze the Tigers, who quickly responded each time Indiana scored. When the Hoosiers tied the game in the top of the second, Clemson answered with three runs of its own, highlighted by Moore’s 215-foot shot to left.
After Indiana scored two in the top of the third, the Tigers answered with a six-hit, four-run third inning. Capped off by Minish’s double and singles from Vieira, Brown and Moore, Clemson took control of yet another game.
Freshman designated hitter and pitcher Macey Cintron, who earned two walks of her own at the plate, came in to relieve Basinger in the sixth and secured the six-out save.
