If you haven’t been paying attention, the Tigers are on a tear.
Clemson men’s club lacrosse has now won four straight games against Atlantic Lacrosse Conference opponents, including three wins over divisional rivals. Last Sunday, Clemson (5-2, 3-0 ALC South) defeated North Carolina 18-10 at Finley Fields in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
It was clear that Clemson would have to earn this win, and the Tigers did. The Tar Heels (1-3 ALC South) played well early in the game despite their record, exchanging goals and leads with the Tigers until the score was tied, 3-3.
Clemson relied on its offensive leaders to pull ahead and provide a comfortable lead. Familiar faces scored again and again for the Tigers, doubling up on North Carolina by halftime, 8-4. Clemson then outscored the Tar Heels 10-6 in the second half.
Sophomore Holden Morrison followed up his eight-goal performance against Kentucky last week with another eight goals and two assists against North Carolina. Both his assists went to fellow attackman Landen Snyder, who returned the favor with a hustle play that set up Morrison’s fifth goal late in the game.
Freshmen midfielders Jack Wunder and Trevor Buffone tallied four and two goals, respectively, on Sunday.
Ian Jackson is usually the first Tiger to get on the board, and Sunday was no different. The senior captain once again scored the first goal of the game for Clemson, netting two total on the day. Jackson has been the spark plug for this team, leading it through early offensive struggles to the recent success it has found.
