On Thursday night, Clemson’s women’s soccer team kept the No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks at bay for a 0-0 draw at Historic Riggs Field. In their third top-20 matchup in their first four games, the women’s soccer team has proven they can hang with the best.
Just one week before their stalemate against South Carolina, the Tigers were put to bed by No. 15 Virginia Tech, 4-0. While not a flashy result, the 0-0 draw demonstrated discipline and progress.
“Credit to our kids who took in information during training, went out to execute and showed that we were better than the previous game,” head coach Eddie Radwanski said.
In the defensive duel, the Tigers managed just two shots on target while simultaneously holding the Gamecocks to the same tally. Goalkeeper Addy Holgorsen added a second clean sheet to her season total.
“This was a good soccer game tonight,” Radwanski said. “It was two good teams who got better from the game. We are a young team, and we took a good step today.”
In their season opener, Radwanski’s team earned a point against No. 18 Ohio State in a 1-1 draw.
“We opened the season on the road, which wasn’t an easy travel, and that is to test a younger group. We then come back and play a big rival like South Carolina,” Radwanski added about his group’s grueling start to the season.
Having weathered the storm, the Tigers have five straight home games to look forward to, but back-to-back matchups with No. 13 Georgia and No. 1 Stanford loom large.
For now, all eyes are on Sunday as the Tigers welcome the Appalachian State Mountaineers for a 7 p.m. matchup at Historic Riggs Field.
