Clemson Parking and Transportation Services announced on Aug. 28 that the Tigers Commute app and website are now available to check real-time availability for a multitude of different parking spaces around campus.
In Tigers Commute, users must tap the “P” icon in the top right corner, and all available parking spaces will appear. The map will then show “live data from sensors installed in over 10,000 parking spaces on campus,” according to Clemson News.
More specifically, users can narrow down where they’re trying to go by selecting a location or type of parking permit. Available spaces and lots include EV charging, ADA, any valid permit, carpool, commuter, employee, metered, resident, visitor and more per the app.
“This will bring full transparency to parking on campus for all users and the data that we capture regarding parking occupancy by time of day and day of week is invaluable, helping us further refine our parking projections into the future to ensure we meet the ever increasing demand to improve the overall parking and transportation experience at Clemson,” Dan Hofmann told Clemson News in an interview.
The app received an honorable mention for innovation in a mobility, transportation or parking program from the International Parking and Mobility Institute. They recognize “parking, mobility, and transportation projects and programs that showcase creativity, innovation, sustainability, and customer experience,” according to the Institute’s website.
While the app shows real-time parking during all home football games, parking spaces on campus are still under football parking rules and regulations, and towing will be enforced.
The app was made with the intention to “empower faculty, staff and students to explore more commute options, help reduce parking demand and promote sustainability, improving campus safety and overall improving the parking and transportation experience on campus,” the Tigers Commute website states.
Additional features highlighted on the website include access to E-bike availability, trip planning and ride-sharing. A driver or passenger can post their trip and connect with ridesharing partners, as well as access Clemson Nightline transit services. Both of these services require a Clemson login. Accessible parking information and mobility options are also available on the app.
