Clemson’s student-run alternative radio station, WSBF-FM Clemson, held a release party on Sept. 5 for the album “Double Infinity” by indie folk band Big Thief. In collaboration with the band’s record label, 4AD, WSBF put together an event to promote the album’s release along with the radio station.
Nick Brenkert, music director for WSBF, explains part of his role is maintaining contact and building relationships with labels and promoters. Brenkert explains, most of the music that is played at the station comes from labels and promoters like 4AD.
“[4AD] reached out to me a few weeks ago about this opportunity that a bunch of other college radio stations were participating in as well,” said Brenkert. “It came at a really good time as our events coordinator, Brian, and I had just been talking about trying to do something like this.”
The event, hosted at WSBF’s office in the Hendrix Student Center, produced a wide turnout. WSBF staff, interns and nonmembers alike mingled together and enjoyed “Double Infinity,” listening as Brenkert played the album twice during the event.
“We are absolutely going to try and do more events like this,” said Brenkert. “It’s relatively easy on our end, and a fun event for everyone to come to.”
The release party was the first in a long time for WSBF, and one of many events the radio station holds throughout the year. Brenkert and other attendees agreed that the event was an overall success that brought people together and enhanced WSBF’s visibility.
As for the album itself, “Double Infinity” is Big Thief’s sixth studio record. The album runs 42 minutes and 53 seconds long across nine tracks, with each song leading seamlessly into the next, and an admirable consistency in quality is maintained throughout. A few of the most notable tracks from the album were “Words,” “All Night All Day” and “How Could I Have Known.”
“Double Infinity” debuted on WSBF airwaves on Sept. 5 on Clara Quinlan’s 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. show “The Witching Hour.”
