Clemson volleyball started this year’s season 12-0 for the first time since 1999. The Tigers are looking to continue their winning streak as they head into conference play, where they will first take on Florida State at home this Friday.
The Tigers have a good chance to remain undefeated against the Seminoles, who did not have as successful a nonconference record as the Tigers. Florida State’s most recent loss came from the ACC-SEC Showdown at the Net volleyball challenge, which Auburn swept. Despite the sweep, the Seminoles beat the Auburn Tigers 3-1 once they returned to Tallahassee, Florida.
The Seminoles are currently 2-3 when they play away, and the Tigers are looking to add another loss to that record. With Clemson having all the momentum heading into conference play, the team looks like it can add its first ACC win a lot sooner than last year.
The road ahead is not as easy as the Tigers host No. 24 Miami on Sunday. Heredia Colon, the senior outside hitter for the Hurricanes, has received back-to-back ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Colon leads the NCAA in points per set, averaging 6.21, and is fourth in the NCAA for kills per set at 5.11. She also leads the ACC in total points, aces and kills.
After hosting back-to-back games, the Tigers will take a trip to face two of the strongest teams in the country. Clemson will first face No. 5 Pittsburgh, then travel to Dallas, Texas, to face No. 11 SMU.
Although the Tigers have a tough road ahead, they look to be more successful in the conference this year. All ACC matches will kick off on Friday, with Clemson hosting Florida State at 6 p.m. at Jervey Gym.
