On Monday, Clemson gymnastics announced it will officially begin its season on Jan. 4 against Towson, with a new set of coaches leading the Tigers this season.
Co-head coaches Justin Howell and Elisabeth Crandall-Howell will lead the Tigers this year in a loaded schedule, and can be seen before the season officially starts at the team showcase on Dec. 4.
The Tigers will host their first SEC opponent on Jan. 9, when they will face Alabama at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Crimson Tide made it to the NCAA Championship semifinals just a season ago and ranked No. 8 in the nation at the end of the season.
Clemson will travel back-to-back weeks following its meet against Alabama. The team will make the short trip to NC State to face a top ACC opponent on Jan. 17 before traveling to Stanford on Jan. 25.
The Cardinal ended last season at No. 18 and looks to come out just as strong this season.
North Carolina will travel to Clemson to compete against the Tigers on Jan. 30, before Clemson hosts California on Feb. 7. Co-head coaches Howell and Crandall-Howell led the Bears for 13 years before leaving to coach the Tigers in their third season as a program.
Clemson will face off against Pittsburgh three times this season. The Panthers will host the Tigers on Feb. 15 and then will make a trip to Clemson the following week to meet again on Feb. 20.
The Tigers will travel to Michigan on March 6 to take on the Wolverines for the first time in three seasons, and will meet Pitt again in a quad meet with Auburn and Georgia at a neutral site on March 8. Then, Clemson will host BYU on March 13 to close out the regular season.
Excluding Towson and Pitt, all of Clemson’s upcoming opponents competed in the postseason last year. With many gymnasts returning from the inaugural team and a couple of key additions from the transfer portal, Clemson looks to come out strong in its third season.
