My best advice for this situation is that communication is your best bet. I understand that this may be scary, but in a truly healthy friendship or relationship, you should be able to talk about these things. If it’s someone you don’t quite know that well yet, I think that communicating is even more valuable, that way you both understand what the other is looking for in this relationship. 

To answer your question, though, in my experience guys will usually start paying more attention to you, they will often look at you more or go out of their way to be closer to you. They may join clubs or organizations you’re in or text or call you more. Though every guy is different, in general, if someone likes you, it makes sense that they would want to be around you more and to spend more time with you.

All in all, just ask. Whether it’s a new friendship or a long-time bestie, I think it’s in both of your best interests to communicate with him. There are some typical signs that you could look to, but the only way to know for sure would be to ask. I know it can be scary, but trust me, we’ve all been there before and a little bit of communication can go a long way!
