CLEMSON, S.C., April 16, 2023 — Young Women for America at Clemson University will host NCAA collegiate athlete and Independent Women’s Forum spokeswoman Riley Gaines on Wednesday, April 19, at 7 p.m. EDT.
Save Women’s Sports with Riley Gaines will be held at Watt Family Innovation Center Auditorium at Clemson University at 405 S Palmetto Blvd. Gaines will address Clemson students and the greater Clemson community and speak against biological males competing on female sports teams, followed by a question and answer session.
Riley Gaines, a 12-time All-American swimmer with five SEC titles, was a successful female swimmer at the University of Kentucky with ambitions to pursue a dental degree. That post-graduate ambition and her entire life were changed when she was forced to share a locker room and then compete against biological male Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA Women’s Swimming Championship. This uneven challenge, not just for Riley but for every woman competing in the pool that day, was made even more traumatic when the NCAA officials insisted on giving Lia Thomas the trophy, despite tying Riley down to the hundredth of a second in the event. This moment became her call to action — to defend and protect America’s daughters against gender-denying ideology.
Save Women’s Sports with Riley Gaines will be open to students and the greater community. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are not required for entry, but seating for the event will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
