Filling up student sections and sitting front row at games, Central Spirit is a constant in the fan base surrounding the Clemson Tigers. Home or away, members show up and show out in support of the Tigers, so it shouldn’t be a shock that it won best student organization.
Members of Central Spirit genuinely embody the school’s spirit and show what it means to bleed orange and purple.
Central Spirit is devoted to cheering on sports teams all year round with unmatched enthusiasm. Beyond painting their bodies for basketball games and waving C-L-E-M-S-O-N flags at football games, members attend all types of events to support every Clemson team, no matter the season.
“We love to stand out and show our strong school spirit and share the love of sports and Clemson Athletics with all of the students around us!” Meghan Kropp, president of Central Spirit, said.
Kropp’s favorite phrase to capture the essence of Central Spirit is “We back the Tigers!” and rightfully so because members show without fail that they are truly dedicated to supporting their peers.
Central Spirit’s pride spreads throughout the community, from students to alumni to locals alike. Two of the most significant events of the year, the First Friday Parade and the Homecoming float build, are both run by Central Spirit. In addition to dealing with all of the behind-the-scenes work, the organization also constructs a float to engage in this timeless tradition.
All of this spirit is not without purpose. As Kropp points out, “Being a Clemson Tiger is something that lives with you forever,” a sentiment that we can all share thanks to the sense of community built by her organization.
“The values Central Spirit upholds as an organization ties all of the Clemson Family together and is a huge part of what makes a big university feel small,” former Central Spirit president Alejandro Mejia-Tejada said.
