Derwin Simpson and Jeremy Lutz are both junior industrial engineering majors, and they are running for student body president and vice president, respectively. “Seizing Our Moments” is the slogan for their platform, and they seek to focus on the Clemson community, Clemson’s growth and the empowerment of student voices. In an interview with Simpson that involved some wings, we were given a closer look at Simpson and the vision he and Lutz are working toward.
The top five aspects of Simpson and Lutz’s campaign, as described by themselves, are below. Primary elections are on Feb. 27 and last until midnight.
- Community is of great importance to Simpson and Lutz, who want to put emphasis on uniting the Clemson family and strengthening the Clemson legacy through Tow Gown relations and increased representation of all groups.
- Navigating Clemson’s growth is something Simpson and Lutz want to bring attention to with positions of the student body president and vice president. This especially concerns the increased need of transparent student and university relations.
- Safety and well-being of students is an important issue for Simpson and Lutz, who advocate for enhancing Redfern and the CAPS program.
- Empowering student voices and empowerment stemming from student organization support on an administrative level are thoroughly promoted by the candidates.
- Revision of issues such as parking, student ticketing and lack of communal student areas are to be evaluated.
