There is undoubtedly a large amount of excitement and anticipation surrounding the five candidate pairs running for CUSG President and Vice President. Junior Computer Engineering Major Hunter Bond, the campaign manager for Diamond Brown and Thomas Marshall III, is no exception to these feelings. When questioned about this election season in an interview, his enthusiasm for the campaign made itself known.
“I agreed to be [Diamond and Thomas’] campaign manager because I want to see them succeed so much,” Bond said. “I truly believe they have so much to offer to Clemson!”
Bond met both Brown and Marshall through CUSG, so it is no surprise that he has become so heavily involved with their campaigning.
“Diamond and I are both vice chairs of committees on Senate, so we work a lot together,” Bond said. “Thomas, I originally met when he was a senator last year, but I got to know him better through his most recent position as PR Director of CUSG.”
When approached by the two of them to be their campaign manager, Bond admits the decision was an easy one.
“Both of them are such genuine people who put others before [themselves], which is what a true leader is in my opinion,” Bond said.
Brown and Thomas are also working to “Empower” students in the second section of their platform, which is Bond’s favorite aspect.
“It highlights each of the seven colleges and reasonable goals to help improve them, which is something I haven’t seen in previous platforms,” Bond said.
Far more students than Bond seem excited about the platform as campaigning continues throughout the next two weeks.
“The reaction from the student body has been insane,” Bond said. “Having the amount of encouragement we have received is incredible, and it reminds us why we decided to do all of this in the first place.”
As for the students who are closely involved with the campaigning process, Bond was eager to sing his coworkers’ praises. According to Bond, the 15 different students on the team have all “helped shape” and motivate Brown and Marshall’s vision using their vast and unique Clemson experiences.
“One example of the amount of [the] time and effort that our team contributes is our Public Relations Director Alex Mueller (the creator of THE fourth-quarter video for the Clemson football team) and the amazing videos and other various types of media he has been able to produce for the campaign,” Bond said.
When asked to sum up Brown and Marshall’s campaign in one word that wasn’t their slogan, “Elevate,” Bond seemed to do so easily.
“Genuine,” Bond said.
The primary elections will be held online on Feb. 27, and the final election will be on March 6.
