Over the course of the past four women’s college soccer seasons, Mariana Speckmaier has brought tremendous excitement to Riggs Field, where she received ACC honors three times and led the Clemson Tigers to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. Speckmaier joined the Clemson program in 2017 as a forward and was an integral member of the squad for the entirety of her four-year tenure.

Speckmaier was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team in a 2017 season that saw her tie for the team lead with seven goals scored. As a second-team All-ACC selection in 2018, Speckmaier led Clemson in both goals (10) and points (22). The star forward was a preseason All-ACC selection in 2019, when she was again Clemson’s leading goal scorer with six goals to her name. The condensed fall 2020 campaign might have been Speckmaier’s best all-around season. Although the senior’s streak of leading Clemson in goals scored ended, Speckmaier, who netted two goals to go along with her one assist, was named to the All-ACC second team and was the undisputed field general for the Tigers. In a Clemson uniform, Speckmaier tallied 25 goals and six assists for a grand total of 56 points across her four seasons in Tigertown.

“She showed why she’s an All-ACC type of player,” Head Coach Eddie Radwanski said of Speckmaier’s performance before stating how important it was for Clemson to have a player as talented as Speckmaier “step on the field and contribute.”

Speckmaier’s decorated collegiate career recently ended on a happy note, with the Washington Spirit selecting Speckmaier No. 39 overall in the 2021 NWSL Draft. The selfless leadership consistently displayed by Speckmaier is certain to have set her teammates up for tremendous success, and the forward’s legacy will assuredly live on at Historic Riggs Field for years to come.
