The 2020 CUSG election season started with five campaigns for student body president and vice president. Now, after one disqualification that occurred just days before the election, two candidate pairs have been selected to advance to the general election.
Jonathan Gundana and Emma Canedo, running under the slogan “All for Clemson”, received 1864 votes. This was 37.25 percent of total votes cast. With a platform that centers on connection to Clemson, community and academics, Gundana and Canedo will once again be on the ballot this coming week.
So sorry we are late to the game, but here is our quote! Great to see you at the debate tonight!
Further information on Gundana and Canedo can be found here, and they can be seen playing The Running Mate Game here. Michael Paterakis, their campaign manager, answered questions about their campaign here.
Austin Simpson and Hallie Bowers also qualified for general elections after receiving 1585 votes, which was 31.84 percent of total votes cast. Simpson and Bowers, running under the slogan “Be the Change”, possess a platform that focuses on student experience, life and voice. Their campaigning will also continue into next week.
“Hallie and I are extremely grateful for the support shown in the results of the primaries,” Simpson said in an email to The Tiger. “Although there is not much time left in the campaign season, there is a lot of work to be done and Hallie and I could not be more excited to have another week! We want to continue to encourage everyone to educate themselves on the candidates and their platforms and be sure to vote again on Wednesday, Mar. 4th. Let’s Be the Change!”
