Although many of us are not yet moved onto campus, here are some activities you can do during this pandemic. It is important to continue to exercise and stay active throughout these tough times as well as continue to socialize with others, but of course, from a safe distance. Meditation, yoga and at-home workouts are all great ways to get your body active and moving. It is easy to feel stressed and tense in times like these, so getting active not only betters your physical health, but can also relieve anxiety, reduce stress and help you develop better sleeping habits. Another way to pass time is to have daily Zoom or FaceTime calls with your friends. Whether you are playing video games or just talking, this is a great way to socialize with all of your friends at the same time virtually. Staying connected is very important in order to maintain relationships and maintain good mental health. Exploring new movies and music is also a great way to spend your free time during this pandemic. Maybe you only like one genre of music, or you’ve only ever seen superhero movies…now is a perfect time to expand your knowledge of pop culture. You never know, maybe you will end up loving that cringey Hallmark movie that was advertised on TV, or maybe you discover that country music isn’t actually as bad as Generation Z claims. Going outside and discovering the beauty of what nature brings is also a great way to spend your extra time. Visit a park, plant a garden, go hiking, make a fort or pick flowers. Not so musically inclined? Learn how to play an instrument, or maybe learn how to sing an opera. Learn a new language or learn a song in another language. Don’t know where to start? “Blood, Sweat & Tears” by BTS is a great piece. A few other more productive things you can do are clean out your camera roll, your room or even your entire house. If you are more into literature, write a book, and while you’re at it, learn how to write in cursive if you do not already know how to. Now is also a great time to find a penpal to write and send letters to. Whether they go to school with you or live across the country, sending letters is a great way to make friends and send them something that will remind them of you that they can keep forever. Finally, the top way that most of us have probably spent our free time over the past few months is by using TikTok. It is easy to spend hours on TikTok and not notice because of the different types of creators on this platform and their content. Regardless of whether you want to create videos, post videos or just simply watch videos, this app is great to download when you are bored at home during quarantine. It is also free to download on all devices, is extremely entertaining and is suited for people of all ages.
