Are you tired of driving 15 minutes to see the latest film or planning an entire weekend trip just to see a band perform in Atlanta? Well look no further for some local entertainment! Brooks Center of the Performing Arts offers plenty of quality performances, and during the month of April, there’s a show at least once a week! Come to one of these events and support your classmates, friends and that guy down the hall who’s never in his dorm because he’s practicing. Entertainment is great, but cheap, local entertainment is where it’s at.
Jazz Ensemble
Thursday, April 5 @ 7:30 PM
Location: Daniel High School Auditorium
$5 Adult / FREE Student
Clemson is well known for its gifted brass section and jazzy fight song, so come see the jazz ensemble strut their stuff! High energy music will fill the hall, solos bouncing from saxophone to trumpet to guitar and back. You don’t need to spend an inordinate amount to hear a Louis Armstrong knock-off swing some rhythms when the jazz ensemble will do it for free!
TIGEROAR LIVE XVII
Saturday, April 7 @ 7:30 PM
Location: NewSpring Church, 13200 Clemson Boulevard, Seneca
$10 Adult / $5 Student
Pitch Perfect 3 was a total letdown, but Clemson’s all-male a capella group, Tigeroar, is here to pick up the slack! While they may be lacking the feminine charm of Anna Kendrick and Co., Tigeroar more than makes up for it with their snazzy orange blazers and diverse song selections. Their concert will celebrate 20 years of Tigeroar, and their harmonious voices will definitely be worth hearing!
Men’s & Women’s Choirs
Thursday, April 12 @ 7:30 PM
Location: Fort Hill Presbyterian Church
$10 Adult / $5 Student
Get away from your shower-turned- concert-hall and come see some real singers belt their stuff! The choirs of Clemson will present a diverse range of music using a diverse range of mediums. Whether it’s just their voices or if instruments are added to the mix, this performance will be much better than any serenade you might be giving your shampoo bottle.
“The Diviners”
Monday, April 16 – Sunday, April 22 @ 7:30
Location: Brooks Center Courtyard
$12 Adult / $6 Student
Performed by the Clemson Players, “The Diviners” is a “slice-of- life” play that takes place in the fictional town of Zion, Indiana. Sure to evoke emotion, the actors and actresses will undoubtedly spin an intriguing tale of religion, friendship and tragedy. It’s not hard to divine whether or not you’ll need tissues for this moving production!
Symphonic Band and Concert Band
Tuesday, April 17 @ 7:30
Location: TBA
$5 Adult / FREE Student
This performance will be the second time that Clemson’s symphonic band has taken the stage this semester, but it will be the debut of the concert band. A look into what the Tiger Band members do when they’re not marching, this concert will surely offer an exciting soundscape! The songs will intrigue you, the meanings will move you and the admittance price will relieve your empty wallet.
CU Singers and Cantorei
Friday, April 20 @ 7:30
Location: Fort Hill Presbyterian Church
$10 Adult / $5 Student
A bit more elite than the men’s and women’s choirs, the CU singers and Cantorei will raise the roof with their plethora of songs. If you’re bored of doing nothing on Friday nights, then pull yourself away from Netflix and go on down to the Brooks Center. A performance by these singers will be infinitely better than rewatching an old episode of “Glee.”
Symphony Orchestra
Tuesday, April 24 @ 7:30
Location: Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center at Southern Wesleyan University
$10 Adult / $5 Student
Around this time is when you’re realizing that your professors aren’t willing to pull some strings for your grades, so you might as well enjoy seeing other kinds of strings being pulled. The string musicians of Clemson are rather elusive, and this will be your only chance this semester to see them perform! Whether plucking or bowing, the orchestra will perform exciting and enjoyable music.
Percussion Ensemble and CU Steel Band
Friday, April 27 @ 7:30 PM
Location: Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center at Southern Wesleyan University
$10 Adult / $5 Student
Put on your Hawaiian shirts and grab your drumsticks, the drummers are taking over Brooks! With football season over, the drumline disappears and you have drastically fewer chances to hear some funky beats and to see some fancy stick flips. However, on Friday, April 27, the percussion ensemble and steel band members will emerge from their respective holes and put on a show worth watching!
