It’s getting cold, and the time of highest academic stress is among us. Most of us will be affected by some type of cold symptoms in the next few months, so here are some hot drinks to keep you feeling your best.
1. Throat Coat tea
Purchase this at your local grocery store, or even Target or Walmart. The tea combines licorice root with slippery elm bark to soothe a sore or dry throat. Add honey if you want a little more sweetness. This is sure to temporarily relieve your nagging sore throat in no time.
2. Hot water with honey and lemon
This is simple and will leave you feeling warm, calm and rejuvenated on a long, cold day.
3. Hot water with ginger and honey
Again, this is very simple. Ginger is great for digestion, and its zingy flavor helps cleanse your sinuses. You can also substitute (or add) cinnamon instead of ginger if you are looking for a little more spice ~and everything nice~.
4. “The Medicine Ball” from Starbucks
This is probably my favorite “secret menu” Starbucks drink. It is half hot water and half steamed lemonade, 1 bag of Teavana Jade Citrus Mint Tea, 1 bag of Teavana Peach Tranquility Tea, and honey. You can even ask for a pump of peppermint if you want to take it up a notch. This is sure to taste just as good as it makes you feel.
5. White Hot Chocolate
This may not help your cold symptoms directly, but its unique, sweet Christmassy flavor will surely brighten your day. You can order this at Starbucks and most other coffee shops, or pick up a mix at the grocery store.
Happy sipping!
