Only eight years after their grand reopening, Littlejohn Coliseum and the Swann Pavilion are scheduled to undergo renovations.
Jeff Kallin, senior associate athletic director for communications, told The Tiger in an email that the project is being privately funded through IPTAY, led by a significant donation from Jim and Candace Brown.
The current project includes updates to over 51,000 square feet of existing team spaces as well as 30,000 square feet of new construction at an estimated cost of $4o million, according to an article by Clemson Athletics and a feasibility study from Clemson University Facilities.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball programs will receive a new practice gym and expanded team spaces, which will include coach office suites, video and media workrooms, player lounges, team meeting rooms and locker rooms for players, coaches and managers. The outdoor patio areas for both programs will also be expanded, according to the feasibility study.
In addition to expanded individual spaces, both teams will acquire a new shared area featuring a kitchen, bistro, press room, training areas, an exam room, a weight room and a hydrotherapy and elite recovery center, according to the feasibility study.
The study also stated that Clemson’s gymnastics program will receive improved locker suites and auxiliary locker rooms.
Although the Clemson board of trustees approved Phase I for the renovations in July 2023, Phase II and state approval are still required before construction can begin. In a press conference on Aug. 21, Clemson’s athletic director Graham Neff expressed his hopes to obtain Phase II approval this fall. In another media conference on Sept. 6, Neff stated that construction on the coliseum is projected to start this winter.
While underway, the renovations are not expected to impact fan seating or men’s and women’s basketball schedules, according to an article by Greenville News.
