A former Clemson University student died in a car crash Sunday afternoon in Pendleton, according to a statement by the Anderson County coroner’s office and WYFF4.
Greg Shore, coroner, said that his office is investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred around 3:35 pm between Danenhower Road and Link Road in Pendleton, S.C. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Don McCown, chief deputy coroner advises that victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The victim died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries and thermal burns secondary to blunt force trauma and fire, according to the statement.
The investigation indicates that the victim’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on Danenhower Road, crossed the centerline striking another vehicle head-on, then traveled off the roadway, down an embankment and burst into flames.
The investigation is on-going by the Anderson County coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Medshore EMS, Anderson County EMS, Anderson County Fire Department and South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
“We can confirm the individual involved in an Anderson county wreck Sunday was not a current Clemson student. Certainly, the University extends condolences to this individual’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said Phillip Sikes, spokesperson for the University.
