Per capita measurement of cases can be an effective tool to compare the number of weekly reported positive cases among areas where population can differ. The state of South Carolina has a population of 5,148,714 according to the U.S. Census in 2019, compared to Pickens County at 126,884 and Clemson University’s student population of 25,822. Clemson University’s cases spiked after the start of the fall semester as well as before and during on-campus move-in, but the cases have started to realign with the trends of South Carolina and Pickens County in recent weeks.
