A man has died after being hit by a train in Clemson, according to police.
Clemson City Chief of Police Jimmy Dixon said that officers received a call around 11:15 p.m. on July 19.
The caller told police that a pedestrian had been struck by a train between Elm Street and Highway 133 near the Riverpoint Condos. That is near the section of track that crosses Lake Hartwell.
The Pickens County Coroner identified the victim as 33-year-old Garcia-Cabrera Crisoforo of Mexico City, Mexico. Crisoforo is not a Clemson University student, police say.
After further investigation, police determined that Crisoforo was sitting on one of the train track rails when the train approached. He was not able to get away in time and was hit by the train, police say.
He was struck by a Norfolk Southern freight train traveling southbound, according to police. Officers responding to the scene found the train stopped.
Crisoforo was pronounced dead on the scene by the Pickens County coroner.
The Clemson City Police Department is continuing to investigate.
