You know what that means; spooky season is upon us. With the dropping temperature comes the smell of cinnamon, pumpkin flavoring, fall leaves and events that won’t leave you sweating so much you look like you’ve just taken a shower. Looking for something else other than football to fill your fall weekend with? Here are five ideas to fill your days with your ghoul, ghost or boo, if you know what I mean.
Denver Downs Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch
Begin your fall adventures by heading to Denver Downs to grab a pumpkin to carve or a maze to get lost in! Denver Downs also has 33 other barnyard activities like hayrides, seeing farm animals, pumpkin bowling, ziplines, foosball and more. On weekends, they even have live music, bonfires and pig races! Feeling more of the lazy way to fall fun? Buy a pumpkin at the ticket barn before entering (entrance ticket to Denver Downs is $17.50) or head towards the patch to do some looking for your own great pumpkin! Pumpkins are sold by the pound with smaller pumpkins starting at $2. While you are there, you may as well take a spin through the corn maze, themed after a memorium celebrating the first moon walk 50 years ago. The theme sounds like some inspiration for a good Halloween costume too, but that’s just me.
2019 Piedmont Interstate Fair
Running Oct. 7 through Oct. 13 in Spartanburg, S.C., the fair is the perfect way to kick off the fall season. The classic fair foods like candy apples, funnel cake and fried Oreos paired with fall rides is just screaming regret with a mixture of some serious fun. When you need a break from the motion sickness, settle down and head to the livestock shows, the live butterfly exhibit or even catch a ride on a helicopter. Admission at the gate for adults is $10 to enter, and after entering, you have to pay for tickets for rides. I would recommend the Pay-One -Price armbands, ranging from $15 to $20, that give you unlimited access to rides, but there are options to buy individual tickets for various prices.
2019 Fall for Greenville
Kicking off Oct. 10 with a concert on the CPI stage, head to Greenville for free entertainment on seven different stages and eat food from 40 different restaurant featuring over 200 different menu items. “Taste tickets” that let you try the food and beverages will be sold at the event for $5 for a sheet of 10. There is also the option to buy ten sheets of taste tickets for $50 and get the 11th one for free. Depending on how hungry or thirsty you and your friends are, it may be something to go on. This time of year, you can never go wrong with delectable food and good music. Gotta get ready to hibernate for that terrifying South Carolina winter!
Apple picking
We are in the height of apple picking season so take a little road trip with friends up to Hendersonville, N.C. for something your doctor would be proud of. Three of my personal favorites are Justus Orchard, Grandad’s Apples n’ Such and Sky Top Orchard. Your options at all three include purchasing pre-picked apples, purchasing fresh baked goods like apple cider donuts and caramel apples or even petting some farm animals! Justus Orchard is geared more towards families with activities like cow train rides, while Grandad’s and Sky Top is more open to all ages with country stores of more than just apple products and lots of acreage to explore!
Nightmare Dungeon Haunted Attraction
Open now until November 3rd, get your scare on for $30.00/person by walking through your worst nightmares brought to life in a two story log cabin in the woods. Themes of the haunted attraction include: a Zombie apocalypse after a tragic N3QX 1 Virus outbreak, a Madhouse filled with grotesque patients and torturing surgeons, a dungeon closed after a government shutdown leaving old tortured spirits to scare you and a redneck grave-robbing family. Can you handle the scares? Get to 645 Old Anderson Road to get your scream on.
