“Once upon a time, there was a princess who was (insert bubbly cliche of fairytale beginning)…” Fast forward: “The prince and the princess got married and lived happily ever after!”
This same story of destined true love becomes a redundant and mundane cliche as time progresses. From a young age, many women are already introduced to the idea of one day growing up and marrying the most handsome man on the planet (i.e., her “prince”). But honestly, the “happily ever after” cliche is quite tiring and difficult to follow during the quest of falling in love and getting married. With that being said, here are a few tips/affirmations to avoid getting caught up in these fairy tale narratives:
You’ll have to kiss many frogs in order to get to your prince/princess, and truthfully, you don’t have time to waste.
In the words of Yung Miami from the City Girls, “No romance without finance.” Before getting caught up in the idea of going on dates or getting married, accumulate enough funds to handle all necessities (i.e., bills, school, work, etc.).
Never limit yourself to just one person for an extended amount of time; you’ll just end up wasting time and hurting yourself in the end.
Experiment (in the safest way possible) with multiple people before settling down. Learn to live a little!
Always focus on yourself and wellbeing before trying to have anyone seriously involved in your life. You can’t be someone else’s peace if you’re not at peace with yourself.
