For Brandi Carter, former owner of Clemson Confectioneries, 2020 revealed its ugly side to her early on when she had to vacate her business on Jan. 4. In June 2019, Carter was shocked when a reporter asked for her statement on the closing of her business in downtown Clemson, stating, “I was kind of blindsided, I had no idea what they were talking about.” Later that month, Carter was informed she would have 90 days to vacate the premises.

Clemson Confectioneries opened in June 2018 and Carter expressed how it felt like a weight was lifted off her shoulders. Carter recalls her business in Clemson as a “happy place” that was never serious, a place where she had the freedom to create whatever she desired.

After leaving Clemson, Carter had every intention of opening a new location in Patrick Square under a new name, Lindough’s, but COVID-19 had other plans. Instead, the bakery moved into her home where she learned the difficulties of living and working under the same roof. After months of trying to adjust, she decided to put the bakery on pause until a new location could be found. Carter is always searching for the bakery’s new home saying, “Opening another bakery is always on my heart.”

While the bakery has been placed on pause, Carter has another project in the works that will include some baked goods. More details coming on this in the next few months.
