About two hours away from Clemson in Fayetteville, Georgia, there is a Hawaiian-themed Chick-Fil-A called Truett’s Luau which adds a tropical twist to the fast food chicken restaurant most students know well. With this “Hawaiian Chick-Fil-A” trending all over the internet, I thought it would be the perfect time to find out if this hidden gem is worth the hype. While many locals say that it’s “overrated” and “not worth the trip,” today I’ll be giving you my opinion on whether the 4+ hour road trip is worth it. 

First off, in terms of drinks, the Luau offers 5 specialty Hawaiian drinks in addition to the traditional Chick-Fil-A drink menu. There is “Frosted Hawaiian,” “Frosted Pineapple,” “bubble tea,” “Harley and Sons Herbal Tea” and “Kona Coffee French Press.” Although I only had the chance to try the Frosted Hawaiian and the Frosted Pineapple, I would give them each a five-star rating for the flavor, execution and dedication to the theme. The Frosted Pineapple reminded me of Dole Whips from Disney World and the Frosted Hawaiian was sweet, tropical and truly tasted like Hawaii in a cup. 

For entrees, the Luau has a completely transformed menu to honor the Hawaiian theme with everything from Pineapple Chicken Tacos and Kalua Pork Tacos to Maui Shrimp, Mahi Mahi, Teri Chicken and more! The food was surprisingly authentic, well-prepared for a fast food restaurant and came with a side of Sweet Potato Waffle Fries! For what it was, I would give the entree portion of the meal a five-star rating. The food was warm, tasty and everything I expected it to be for a “Hawaiian Chick-Fil-A.” 

It’s not often that you drive two hours for a fast food dining experience, but in the case of Truett’s Luau, I would say that it was every bit worth it. The food was tasty and fun and the lively road trip with friends was unforgettable. If you’re contemplating a trip to the “Hawaiian Chick-Fil-A,” this is your sign to get in the car and go!
