During this week’s meeting, the CUSG Senate discussed both new policies and regular changes to procedure, including a new proposed amendment to the Senate rules and updates on Spring 2022 registration.
The meeting began with a presentation by Dr. Taimi Olsen and Dr. Cazembe Kennedy of the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation (OTEI). Olsen and Cazembe have been doing research on what learning styles work best for students, and this research will be used to help professors develop more effective teaching methods.
Senator Newell began the committee reports with Academic Affairs and gave new information on Spring 2022 class registration. Newell said that the time tickets will be released next Wednesday, and the first time slots will be on Nov. 1.
Senator Huggins reminded the Senate that the Campus Life Committee will be holding their off-campus housing fair on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Hendrix. The fair will feature representatives from dozens of local residential communities.
Health and Human Services chair Senator Kibler encouraged members of the Senate to participate in the Mattress Demonstration on Oct. 20, where participants carry a mattress all day to signify the weight that victims of domestic violence carry with them every day.
Senator Jordan of Inclusion and Equity announced the election results for the Social Justice Council, which he will continue to be the chair of. He also said that while he has not yet talked to administration about the reported sexual assault on campus last week, he will be doing so soon.
Innovation & Technology’s vice-chair Senator Miller gave their report in the absence of Senator Mazzeo. Miller announced that I&T’s TEDx event received so much student interest that it is moving to a new location with double the previous capacity.
Senator Finney of Transportation & Facilities announced that more bikes will be arriving shortly for student use, and that they will soon be getting scooters as an option for student rental.
The Clemson University Student Government Senate meets on Monday nights at 7 p.m. in the Student Senate Chambers.
