Here are some helpful tips for taking care of yourself while in quarantine! Self care is an essential part of our everyday lives and can help energize us, reinforce positive thinking and reduce stress levels. Even though the last thing on our minds right now might be self care, taking five minutes out of your day for these activities will improve your well-being.

Get outside! Even though we might be struggling being stuck in quarantine, we always have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather outside, no matter where we are. Whether you’re walking your dog, going on a jog or just sitting in the sun, there are several advantages to being outside. In Clemson, there are still many places to walk around including the botanical gardens, on campus or the dikes, and you can hang out at Lake Hartwell! The fall season is approaching so take advantage of the beautiful weather and treat yourself by spending some time outside.

Exercise/Stretch! I know we all don’t want to hear it, but exercise is one of the best forms of self-care! Exercising and stretching has many benefits including making you happier, helping with weight loss, increasing energy levels, and decreasing your risk of getting diseases. If you can’t motivate yourself on your own, invite your family members or roommates to join you!

Do your favorite hobby! It’s easy for us to get lost in our busy schedules during the week and forget what we truly enjoy doing in our free time. This can be anywhere from playing a sport, reading a book or getting Chipotle. It’s these hobbies that allow us to spend time away from work and school to de-stress and take care of ourselves.
Take care of your relationships! During times like these, it’s extremely important to take care of our relationships with friends, family and colleagues. Having positive, healthy relationships allows you to live a happier and more fulfilling life. If you haven’t seen your family in a while, Facetime them or send them a text message. We are all feeling alone during this time so we have to be there for each other now more than ever!
