Left-handed pitcher Jake Higginbotham (24) made his first start since his freshman year on Sunday. He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on two hits.

Clemson’s offense continued its onslaught against the Yellow Jackets in its 13-2 victory in the series finale. The Tigers were able to sweep their first ACC series of the year by outscoring Georgia Tech 23-7 through three games.
Clemson’s offense exploded in the first inning, sparked once again by leadoff hitter Logan Davidson finding a way on base. To start the game, Davidson was hit by a pitch, followed by two consecutive walks. By the time the inning game to a close, the Tigers had accumulated seven runs on three hits.
Clemson starter Jake Higginbotham started strong for the Tigers, retiring the first eight batters he faced before Nick Wilhite reached on an error.
In the third inning, Higginbotham was hit in the shoulder by a line drive that deflected and hit him in the jaw. He stayed in the game, but appeared somewhat rattled after that play.
In the same inning, he gave up three hits, one of them a two-run homer to Kyle McCan. Higginbotham’s final line was 5.0 innings pitched, two runs on four hits and four strikeouts to no walks. He improved his record to 3-0.
Seth Beer and Chris Williams both hit homeruns in the game as well. Beer’s was a two-run shot in the third, his sixth of the season and third against Georgia Tech, while Williams’ was a solo shot into the Cajun Cafe in the fourth. The latter homerun gave the Tigers a 10-2 lead.
The Tigers ended up scoring 13 runs on 12 hits against six different Georgia Tech pitchers.
Clemson improved to 15-1 on the year and 3-0 in the ACC.
The Tigers next take on Charleston Southern in a midweek matchup Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Doug Kingsmore.
