Mr. Knickerbocker owners to close downtown Clemson location

Mr. Knickerbocker is closing its downtown location, the shop announced on its Facebook page Wednesday night.
“We have had the pleasure of serving so many amazing Clemson fans since 1973 at this location and we cherish all of our memories we have collected and our friendships we have made for a lifetime,” the Facebook post read.
The shop’s three other locations — on Highway 123 next to Publix in Clemson, the “Shops At Greenridge” location on Woodruff Road in Greenville and the sales outlet store in Central — will remain open.
The reason for the closing wasn’t given in the original post, however, one of the shop’s owners, Michael Spearman, stated in the comments section that the building had been sold and that the new owners had other plans for the space. According to Spearman, Mr. Knickerbocker had been renting the building for 45 years and never got to buy it.
The downtown location will be holding a “Big Moving Sale” through May 12. Plans for any new locations will be announced once details are finalized.
The Tiger has reached out to the shop’s owners for comment.
