Thanksgiving has finally arrived, and maybe you’re looking to celebrate this wonderful day of good eats and giving thanks with your friends. Here are some tips for throwing the ultimate Friendsgiving.
1. Everyone bring a side
…And plan it so there are not too many duplicates! While this may seem rather obvious, it’s key to a successful Friendsgiving. How can you indulge and celebrate when there’s a shortage of food? That’s right; you can’t. Having everyone bring a side doesn’t only guarantee that there is plenty of food, it also provides variety, is budget-friendly and takes pressure off the host.
2. Substitute for turkey
Cooking a turkey is quite the process and let’s be real—don’t most of us prefer Thanksgiving sides to the turkey itself? Consider foregoing the turkey all together, but if you really want that main dish, substitute chicken. If you’re looking for easy and guaranteed deliciousness, pick up a bucket of fast food fried chicken (Yep, It’s Bo time). If you’re feeling more ~classy~, purchase a pre-made rotisserie chicken from the grocery store.
3. Plastic plates/cups/utensils
You will thank me later. This will make clean up much quicker and easier, which will allow more time for relaxing with, and enjoying your friends.
4. Playlist
If you’re anything like me, this is an absolute must for any social gathering. Play your favorite songs, throwbacks and, if you want to spice things up with controversy, turn on some Christmas tunes and separate the jolly elves from the Scrooges.
5. Don’t be afraid to change it up
It’s a busy time of year, and a good Friendsgiving should be anything but a source of stress. Don’t be afraid to be unconventional and make it easier on yourself by going out for a fun Friendsgiving meal or making non-Thanksgiving food (see “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”). Consider a Friendsgiving brunch and bring your favorite muffins, donuts, fruits and other breakfast goodies. Friendsgiving is all about spending time with those who mean the most to you, and there is no wrong way to do it.
