There have been a lot of statistics floating around as of late about how bad Florida State is this year versus how good Clemson is. They aim to highlight the indescribably large chasm between the two teams. Snippets like: this was the Seminoles’ worst ever loss at home since losing to Southern Miss 58-14, Clemson is the first ACC team to go 4-0 against Florida State in a four year span, or that three Seminole players were ejected during the game, also a record.
All of these only explain how good historically Florida State has been that nothing like this has happened to them. Clemson dominated every facet of the entire game which is especially noticeable when you realize that they fielded both sides of the ball with backups by the third quarter.
The entire first quarter was scoreless. Those that see the box score may not believe it, but neither team had a lead after 15 minutes of play. Both offenses played poorly. Both defenses were creative. Both quarterbacks misfired to wide open receivers. There seemed to be a competetive game going on in Tallahassee.
At the start of the second quarter the Clemson Tigers were driving. Clemson had marched into Seminole territory, but stalled after Lawrence threw a jump ball for Justyn Ross in the end zone. It deflected off Ross’ hands and landed incomplete. The special teams unit came out for the field goal try. Kicker Greg Huegel slammed it wide right of the goalposts and kept the score even.
Lawrence did everything in his power during that
