Tigers on tour: Sony Open in Hawaii ends in heartbreak

The Sony Open in Hawaii kicked off at Waialae Country Club in Hawaii last week, featuring four Clemson alumni: Lucas Glover, Ben Martin, Carson Young and Jacob Bridgeman. Despite their efforts, the tournament ended in heartbreak for all four Tigers.

Young was in the best position following day one with a first-round score of 69 (-1), placing him tied for 57th. However, he faced challenges on day two, unable to gain momentum and finishing the second day again at one under for the tournament. Martin finished even on the day, closely followed by Glover, who finished at plus one.

Glover’s misfortune struck when he double-bogeyed on his eighth hole of the day. It included a three-putt from just outside of four feet, which left him at one over par heading into the back nine.

Meanwhile, Bridgeman faced his own challenges on his 12th hole, triple bogeying after encountering a water hazard, bringing him to two over par for the tournament.

Day two proved to be a rollercoaster for Bridgeman, shooting one over par on the front nine but making a strong comeback on the back nine, ending with an eagle on the final hole to put him at 69 (-1). Unfortunately, he was one shot short of the two-under-par cutline.

Glover and Martin also dealt with heartbreak on the cutline, with Glover bogeying hole 17 but making a crucial birdie on the final hole, only to miss the cut by one. Martin also birdied the last hole to finish with a 69 (-1) but once again fell short as the cut line remained at two under par.

Despite the disappointment, the Clemson alumni will be back in action at the American Express Open at La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, California. Young, Martin and Bridgeman look to make the cut and put themselves in a position to be back in the winner’s circle on Tour.

Stay tuned for weekly updates on how the Tigers fare on Tour.
