LSU star gymnast Olivia “Livvy” Dunne has announced that she will be transferring to Clemson University this fall, after being granted a fifth year of eligibility.
Clemson gymnastics kicked off its inaugural season this year, and the team has already seen great success; it recently came in second at the ACC Championship and punched itself a ticket to its first-ever NCAA National Championship.
This success is ultimately what led Dunne to transfer.
“The team is doing really well and I always wanted to be a real Tiger; they just didn’t have a gymnastics team for some reason,” Dunne said. “The fact that it’s the real Death Valley is just an added bonus, but after seeing how many New Jerseyans are on campus, I knew I would feel right at home.”
Dunne, a native of Hillsdale, New Jersey, joins a growing number of students from the state to enroll at Clemson. Jersey once again led out-of-state enrollment this year, with 220 students attending the University this past fall.
President Jimbo Clemmy said he hopes to see that enrollment number increase with the addition of Dunne.
“We want more New Jerseyans to enroll,” President Clements said. “You can never have too many, and our goal is to make Clemson feel like an in-state school for them.”
Dunne’s transfer is sure to make an impact on Clemson in numerous ways, but time will only tell if the major move will increase the enrollment of New Jerseyans. Regardless of Dunne’s transfer, it’s unfortunately unlikely that the number was going to shrink anytime soon.
