Clemson defensive tackle Tyler Davis (13), left tackle Jordan McFadden (71) and defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro (33) run out of the tunnel at Mercedes-Benz Stadium before the Tigers played Georgia Tech on Sept. 5, 2022.

Clemson’s defense has been far from perfect in 2022, and for defensive tackle Tyler Davis, he believes the Tigers need to have a more vigorous mindset against their opponents.
Through the first four weeks of the 2022 season, Clemson is allowing 21.8 points and 346.3 yards per game — both middle-of-the-pack marks in the ACC.
Davis had a strong performance in Week 4 against Wake Forest, recording six tackles and a team-high 1.5 sacks. Still, the 6-foot-2, 300-pound senior was adamant on Tuesday that the Tigers have work to do to reach the level of a stout defense.
“I think we just need to have more of a killer instinct, just try to get after people,” Davis said. “We need to focus a little bit more on the details.”
Despite some of Clemson’s struggles through the first four weeks of the 2022 season, Davis is still confident in the defense’s potential.
“I have a lot of faith,” he said. “Everything’s there. We just have to put it together.”
Davis and the rest of Clemson’s defense will look to put it together on Saturday when No. 5 Clemson takes on No. 10 NC State.
Although he expressed his excitement for the top-10 matchup, Davis is preparing for the Wolfpack just like he would any other team.
“We definitely have a little bit of motivation, but it’s just another game. It’s the biggest game of the year because it’s the next game.”
