Despite last week’s sweep, Clemson volleyball was unable to deliver at Jervey Gym in this past weekend’s Clemson Invitational.
The Tigers started the tournament on Friday with a five set match against Jacksonville State. They were able to fight to take the second and fourth matches, but they eventually lost to the Gamecocks, 3-2.
On Saturday, Clemson first faced The Citadel for another five set match. Again rebounding in the second and fourth matches, The Tigers reached 70 points in the match. However, it would once again be too short for the Tigers as they fell 3-2.
Yet a comeback in the final match of the Invitational would prove the Tigers worthy against Gardner-Webb, sweeping the match for a 3-0 win.
Sophomore outside hitter Aźyah Dailey was a leading force for Clemson’s side of the ball. Dailey scored a total of 32 points in the tournament, including 12 kills against Jacksonville State. Last season, she recorded a 1.714 kill per set percentage.
Now sporting a 4-2 record, Clemson volleyball will take on South Carolina on Tuesday.
