The expansion plan is set to be approved by Clemson’s Board of Trustees on Feb. 2, 2022.

Clemson’s Board of Trustees Finance and Facilities Committee has reviewed a plan for lakefront facilities for women’s lacrosse, gymnastics and rowing, according to a press release by Clemson Athletics.
The full Board will vote on the expansion on Feb. 2, 2022, and if approved, it will then have to be approved in phase two later in 2022.
In its entirety, the expansion is estimated to cost $27.5 million and includes a new lacrosse stadium and a 9,000 square foot operations center.
As for gymnastics, the team will have a new 21,000 square foot facility which will include a practice gym, offices, locker room, lounge and training area.
“Clemson athletics and IPTAY are primed to move forward in providing some of the nation’s best facilities for gymnastics and lacrosse,” said Clemson athletic director Graham Neff in a press release.
“We are equally excited for the benefits this will bring to our vibrant rowing program. The experience of our current student-athletes is at the heart of our department, and this commitment makes Clemson immediately competitive on the recruiting trail as well.”
In addition to the individual facilities for the new teams, the expansion plan also includes a 10,000 square foot training and recovery center for rowing, gymnastics and lacrosse.
These expansion plans come after it was announced in June 2021 that Clemson was adding women’s lacrosse and gymnastics to its athletics program.
Women’s lacrosse is set to bring in its first class of student-athletes in the fall of 2022 and will begin competition in the 2022-2023 academic year.
Although athletics has yet to announce a gymnastics head coach, the process of finding the coach will begin in the coming months, according to today’s press release. The gymnastics team will begin competition in the 2023-2024 academic year.
