Burst pipe floods student apartments at Dockside

A burst water pipe flooded numerous apartments at the Dockside Clemson apartments after below-freezing temperatures struck the area this past weekend.
Water poured into the game room and adjacent rooms of building two on Saturday, videos posted by a resident on Instagram show.
“My apartment is right beside the game room so the living room and kitchen were flooded,” said Caroline Dupree, a sophomore food science and human nutrition major. “It also smells because the game room got hit bad.”
Dockside Clemson has been working since Saturday to remove water and assess the damage, reads an email sent to affected residents.
The Tiger has reached out to Landmark Properties, the management company for Dockside, for additional information.
Residents whose apartments flooded are being told to file an insurance claim for damages and seek alternative housing.
“Right now, we are still working with our restoration company and other contractors to assess all damages. We will update you on this situation once we know more about it and give you an updated status of your apartment home,” said Nick Simmons, community manager for Dockside Clemson, in the email.
Simmons said that insurance providers will provide housing options for affected residents under their individual policies.
All residents are required to obtain a policy before moving into their apartments, according to the email.
Residents whose apartments were not flooded have not received any communication from Dockside, residents who spoke to The Tiger said.
Dockside Clemson also received criticism a few months ago for construction delays that left residents in hotels and dozens of false fire and carbon monoxide alarms.
“It’s really frustrating to deal with all of these issues, I’m over it,” said Hayley Cantrell, a senior biological sciences major.
This is a developing story. The Tiger will provide updates with additional information as it becomes available.
