C-1 to be replaced with new athlete village

The University released a 3D rendition of the tentative layout planned for the new student-athlete village.

Clemson University has announced that a primary commuter lot, C-1, will begin construction to transform into a new elite athletes’ village.

Although parking on campus has been one of the biggest grievances from students at the mercy of Clemson’s Parking and Transportation Services, the organization sees no such reason for those complaints.

“Back in my day, you would just suck it up and walk to class,” a parking representative said when asked about the extreme shortage of spots. “Uphill, both ways. In a hurricane. And it was dark.”

The new athlete village will be an extension of the nearby Lightsey Bridge Apartments, which currently house many student-athletes. It will feature amenities such as a wave pool, movie theater, practice fields and single rooms with full beds for each resident.

“I mean, I’m excited for it,” one anonymous female athlete said. “They told us they’re building a new parking deck for the spots they’re taking, right?”

This comes in addition to the loss of C-3 for the construction of a new Tiger Walk this past fall, as well as C-5, C-8 and E-3 due to construction on Williamson Road. Although several thousand spots have been removed, and each year the enrolling class size increases, no plans for expanded parking have been announced by the University.

On an unrelated note, Parking Services expects to turn a profit in tickets for the first time in school history by the end of the year.

Construction on the village is expected to begin this summer and will be completed by the 2025 academic year.
