Raise your hand if you were personally victimized by the new “Mean Girls” movie.

I currently have my hand raised.

With the raging success of the original 2004 film and the Broadway show, the bar was set high for Tina Fey’s new musical production.

Cringeworthy is truly the only way to describe this film. The musical scenes were often oddly placed and felt like they came out of nowhere with immature lyrics that didn’t fit together.

Lindsay Lohan was the only original member of the Plastics to make an appearance in the film, and I can’t help but wonder if other members of the original cast did not appear because of the plot changes. Iconic scenes were cut in order to save time for the musical numbers, which were unimpressive due to the lack of musical talent.

The film ended with an apology from Reneé Rapp’s Regina George, which is the opposite of Rachel McAdams’s version of the character. While I was prepared for some differences, a completely different ending was not what I had in mind.

Anyone planning to see the new “Mean Girls” film because they loved the first one should probably plan on staying home to avoid disappointment. In the wise words of Gretchen Wieners, “I don’t think my father, the inventor of Toaster Strudel, would be too pleased to hear about this.”
