Sept. 10: ‘Here One Moment’ by Liane Moriarty
Liane Moriarty, one of the biggest names in the publishing world, is set to return with her upcoming novel “Here One Moment.” Arriving in the wake of immense successes like “Big Little Lies” and “The Husband’s Secret,” her early September release will surely be a chart-topper.
Following what was supposed to be an ordinary domestic flight, the novel presents the reader with the following scenario: six passengers’ deaths are not far away, according to an ordinary-seeming woman deemed “the death lady” by her fellow passengers. When people actually start dying as she predicted, plane passengers realize the woman was not just a social oddity.
The novel explores free will, destiny and the desire to grasp control in uncontrollable situations. “Here One Moment” will ask its readers, “If you were told you only had a certain amount of time left to live, would you do things differently? Would you try to dodge your destiny?” according to Crown Publishing. Stephen King describes the novel as “funny and scary,” while USA Today says reading Moriarty is “like drinking a pink Cosmo laced with arsenic.” Based on these early reviews, the novel is sure to elicit both gasps of horror and giggles from readers.
Sept. 24: ‘Intermezzo’ by Sally Rooney
Sally Rooney is one of the most talked about authors of her generation, and after a nearly three-year hiatus, the literature phenomenon is making her return with “Intermezzo.” Rooney’s new novel follows two grieving brothers who seemingly have little in common. Peter, a Dublin lawyer in his thirties, self-medicates to deal with his father’s death, all while grappling with two different romantic partners: Slyvia, whom he considers his first love, and Naomi, a college student.
His younger brother Ivan is a socially awkward competitive chess player who, in the early stage of his grief, becomes intensely connected with Margaret, an older woman with her own conflicted past. Farrar, Straus and Giroux publishing describe “Intermezzo” as “An exquisitely moving story about grief, love, and family ― but especially love.”
Oct. 8: “From Here to the Great Unknown: A Memoir” by Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough
In late 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter, actress Riley Keough (known for her role as Daisy Jones in the TV adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling novel “Daisy Jones and The Six”), to help her finish her memoir, a book detailing her life being born to an American legend and being raised amidst the iconic Graceland estate in the wake of Elvis Presley’s death.
Keough posthumously completed “From Here to the Great Unknown” by listening to the tapes her mother left behind and recalling her memories. The actress says she “knew she had to fulfill her mother’s wish to reveal these memories, incandescent and painful, to the world. To make her mother known,” according to Random House.
Lisa Marie Presley discusses her thoughts about addiction, her marriage to Michael Jackson and being raised by her iconic mother, Priscilla Presley. “From Here to the Great Unknown” blends both Lisa Marie and Riley’s voices, “a mother and daughter communicating—from this world to the one beyond—as they try to heal each other,” according to Random House. “From Here to the Great Unknown” is wholly unique, relaying the personal experiences and feelings of Elvis Presley’s only child.
