The Clemson Tigers beat the San Francisco Dons 70-55 following a strong second-half performance in the Sunshine Slam semifinal in Daytona Beach, Florida.
After entering the half down five points, the Tigers looked like a different team in the second frame. Clemson used a 25-4 run over a seven-minute period to gain control of the game. Overall, they outscored the Dons 46-26 in the second half.
In comparison, Clemson was only able to muster 24 points in the first half. Through this period, the Tigers only made two 3-points in nine attempts. Chase Hunter and Jaeden Zackery had just one apiece. Though the Tigers started slow, their defense was able to keep them in the game.
Clemson forward Ian Schieffelin tallied 18 points in the contest, playing a pivotal role in the team’s second-half surge. His 13 rebounds were the most on the team and were also enough to secure him a double-double.
Another key player for the Tigers in the game was Viktor Lakhin, who tallied 12 points — all from within the arc. Of his six shots that fell, four of them came in the second half.
Forty of Clemson’s 70 points in the contest came from within the paint, contrasting San Francisco’s style of play. The Dons had just 22 points from within the paint but were able to outscore the Tigers at the 3-point line.
