Past the halfway mark of the season, Clemson stands No. 2 in the ACC as the team invites Syracuse to Littlejohn Coliseum on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a conference showdown.
Clemson (15-4, 7-1 ACC) comes into the matchup against Syracuse (9-9, 3-4 ACC) hot on the heels of a 78-75 overtime win against Pittsburgh. The Tigers spread the ball in the winning effort, with five players scoring double-digit points.
Chase Hunter and Ian Schieffelin led the charge, with Hunter scoring 20 points and grabbing five rebounds, while Schieffelin added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Chauncey Wiggins and Jaeden Zackery also made a big impact, combining for 27 points.
After a come-from-behind ACC victory against Notre Dame, Syracuse, who has won three out of its last four matchups, will look to continue its momentum against the Tigers.
Junior guard J.J. Starling and freshman forward Donnie Freeman lead the offensive attack for the Orange, averaging 18.5 points and 13.4 points, respectively. Senior Eddie Lampkin Jr., a Colorado transfer, supplies a veteran presence at center who will look to cause problems for the Tiger’s intimidating front court. Lampkin collects an average of 8.2 rebounds a game.
The Tigers will look to continue their momentum of winning six of the last seven games.
Hunter and Schieffelin, who quickly became household names during the Tigers’ Elite Eight run last season, continue to provide veteran leadership for Clemson.
Transfers Viktor Lakhin, from Cincinnati, and Jaeden Zackery, from Boston College, have stepped up as key contributors, helping the Tigers stay on track as they push for a spot in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Clemson comes into the matchup as the favorite against their ACC opponent, but Syracuse has had a hot hand as of late and will look to upset the Tigers on Wednesday at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
