Clemson gymnastics hosted the No. 19 NC State Wolfpack in Littlejohn Coliseum for its first matchup of the season. The Tigers fell short of an upset win, with the Wolfpack winning 196.050-195.950.
The Tigers began on vault with sophomore Madison Minner and redshirt senior Eve Jackson scoring a 9.825. Graduate Tara Walsh scored 9.750, and Clemson closed out the first rotation with a 48.850.
Redshirt sophomore Lilly Lippeatt led for Clemson on bars, where she tied with graduate Rebecca Wells for a 9.775. Jackson tied her season high on bars, scoring a 9.825, along with freshman Hannah Clark, who followed Jackson with another 9.825. Sophomore Quinn Kuhl closed out the rotation for the Tigers with a 9.800, and NC State led Clemson 98.075-97.850 at the halfway point.
Lippeatt led off for the second time in the meet on beam with a 9.700. Freshman Danika Nielsen earned a season-high of 9.825, followed by sophomore Sierra Church, who also performed her season-high of 9.900. Walsh continued this momentum and closed out the third rotation with her career-high score of 9.875.
Four tigers scored a 9.800 on floor, including Lippeatt, Minner, Jackson and Molly Arnold. Brie Clark closed out the final rotation with a 9.925.
Clemson ultimately fell short of NC State with a final score of 196.050-195.950.
The Tigers will return to Littlejohn on Sunday, Feb. 23, to host No. 13 Stanford at 4 p.m.
