In an extra-inning rivalry showdown, Clemson freshman Marian Collins launched her second home run of the night to walk off the No. 13/12 South Carolina Gamecocks in the ninth inning.
The Tigers split the annual Palmetto Series, 1-1, as they improved to 35-11 on the season and 7-2 all-time versus South Carolina.
Collins’ two solo shots marked her eighth and ninth home runs of the year, now tied for second in program history for most home runs by a freshman. Her 32nd and 33rd RBIs also moved her to third on the freshman RBI list.
In a 2-1 final, all three runs came from solo home runs, with South Carolina collecting its run in the third inning. The Gamecocks’ pitching held Clemson scoreless through five innings, despite the Tigers threatening to score in three of them.
Clemson had multiple chances to get on the board, but was unable to capitalize, leaving six runners on base in the first five innings. A three-run home run and a perfect throw home to cut down the tying run didn’t do Clemson any favors either.
Brooke McCubbin earned her 10th win of the year on the mound, pitching five innings in relief of starter Reese Basinger and carrying the game into extra innings. McCubbin allowed zero runs on just two hits during her outing. Basinger pitched four innings, allowing just the solo home run.
Clemson tallied nine hits in the low-scoring battle, with Alex Brown and Maddie Moore each collecting two.
The Tigers wrap up their 2025 home slate with a three-game series against Boston College, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m.
