Free access to ChatGPT Edu is now available for Clemson students, faculty and staff following the announcement of the University’s partnership with OpenAI earlier this semester.
The University’s partnership will now make generative AI accessible, adaptable and secure for the University community.
ChatGPT Edu is a custom version of the ChatGPT platform that is tailored to the needs of educational institutions.
By providing access to these tools, the University hopes to empower students as they enter a more AI-integrated workforce, aligning with the University’s overarching AI strategy in support of the pillars of Clemson Elevate, according to Clemson News.
To use this platform, community members with Clemson credentials must complete the ChatGPT Edu account request form for access. After filling out the form, the system creates accounts within an hour, triggering a welcome email in an inquirer’s inbox.
Even though some users have already signed into ChatGPT with their Clemson email address, they will not automatically be granted access.
The University emphasizes that responsible use in accordance with University policy and Generative AI Guidelines is necessary.
Clemson has created “quick guides” for both academic and non-academic AI use, as well as for research, to educate the community about the new program, which are accessible on the AI Tools page.
The University vows that “information entered in Clemson’s ChatGPT Edu environment is protected and not used to train AI systems outside the University environment,” according to their AI Tools page.
