Clemson softball’s starting pitcher Valerie Cagle threw her 500th career strikeout against Notre Dame in McWhorter Stadium on Saturday, securing the series win over the Fighting Irish.
The Tigers bounced back from Friday’s loss to win 2-1 on Saturday. Going into Saturday with 499 strike outs, Cagle hit the 500-mark on her 13th batter faced.
Cagle started in the circle and pitched for 4.1 innings, allowing nine hits and one run. She also had a 1.96 earned run average.
Sophomore Regan Spencer relieved Cagle during the fifth, when she went on to let up three hits and no runs to conclude the game.
Scoring for the Tigers were freshman third baseman Maddie Moore, to tie the game in the second and Ansley Houston, who scored on a Cammy Pereira single to close out the seventh.
Cagle also recorded her 50th career win during Thursday’s game, with the Tigers winning 3-2 in walk-off fashion. On Friday, Clemson fell 0-4 to the Irish.
With only two conference series left in the regular season, Clemson aims to push forward with their winning performances.
