Clemson University has quite enough natural beauty as is, but a new concrete-based landscape is just what we need. Paving Bowman Field would create an abundance of possibilities that it does not currently allow for, benefiting students tremendously in the long run.
Adding a paved lot on Bowman is just what students need. This change would allow for an ideal parking hub right in the center of campus and downtown. Being close to downtown shops, the business building, Tillman and Sikes, this lot would benefit students during the week and the community on the weekends.
Students have been complaining about parking all year long, and paving Bowman would open up so many new spots for them. This would allow for ease of parking around campus since the congestion from the other lots would be alleviated due to a large number of students now being able to park on Bowman.
There is nothing that you could do on a grassy Bowman that you could not do on an empty lot. This would offer the same opportunities as the current field to have picnics, play soccer, throw a frisbee or get a good tan, but with the added benefit of parking during class hours.
Not only would this paving allow for convenient parking right in the center of campus, but it also opens possibilities for entrepreneurial efforts to place roots.
In addition to paving the lot, this would add a new space for many small, innovative businesses to set up shop. A new Starbucks would be just the thing to add to this newly paved masterpiece.
A place for students to grab a coffee on their way to class or study is the addition to the campus that Clemson University has lacked for years. The presence of a Starbucks in pairing with the newly paved Bowman is just what students are searching for in the Clemson area.
Honestly, the fun could be expanded on this newly paved area. Students are raving about the new addition of a couple of parking garages on campus, but why stop at two? Bowman is the perfect space for a parking garage, and it would create many more parking options for students.
A parking garage on top of a paved Bowman would allow for more space to engage in activities when empty. Instead of only having the area of Bowman Field to play soccer or football with friends, you can triple it, having fun on all stories of a parking garage.
The benefits of paving Bowman Field make it obvious that this is a step that the University needs to take for the betterment of its student body.
