After four years, Student Affairs is taking another look at how club sports are classified as student organizations.
In 2019, a new student organizations policy classified all club sports as independent student organizations. They should have received the same budgetary and advisory support, just from slightly different places, according to Student Affairs.
“Now we have a history of how that works in practice, and we’ll be reviewing that over the summer,” George Smith, senior associate vice president for Student Affairs, who oversees campus life and campus recreation, said.
This review follows a major effort by the Club Sports Association to be recognized as an independent council by the University. This change was recommended by the Student Senate earlier this year and would move club sports closer to the school with more support, similar to how the various Greek life councils operate.
