Hold on tight because we are going to party like it’s 1779, with powdered wigs making a comeback just in time for summer. That’s right, everyone’s favorite throwback statement piece is back and better than ever.
Are you having a bad hair day? Or did you not have any hair to begin with? No worries! With a powdered wig you can be on trend and look fresh no matter the day. Whether going to dinner with friends or being persecuted at the guillotine, a powdered wig will ensure you look your best!
The past few years have seen a resurgence of ’80s and ’90s fashion, but it is time to throw it back two centuries. Celebrate the 4th of July by channeling your inner founding father and hopping on the hottest trend of the summer!
As summer 2023 approaches, powdered wigs are everywhere following the popularization of historical dramas, such as the Netflix series “Bridgerton.” From Chanel to Dior, runways are being overrun by vintage wigs, and now you can join in, too.
The powdered wig was first popularized in the 18th century due to an outbreak of syphilis which facilitated hair loss among young men and women. Hair was a sign of wealth, so with disease stealing people’s lives, and more importantly, hairlines, wigs were necessary in order to keep up appearance.
This trend died quickly as the Age of Enlightenment made showing off one’s wealth tacky and ignorant instead of fashionable.
Today, flaunting your wealth is hot! Wigs are no longer reserved for aristocrats, and with fashion becoming increasingly accessible, it is only a matter of time before everyone can look their best with their own powdered wig.
Now the world is ready to bring back the wig, and what could be a better time than during the long, sweltering summers? Whether you pair it with your favorite ball gown or dress it down with jean shorts, powdered wigs are more versatile than ever!
