If you ever find yourself at a restaurant in downtown Clemson or a tailgate on game day nodding along to the live performers playing the perfect background music for your good time, it could be any number of the many talented local artists we have in Clemson. But, if you find you are unable to stop yourself from jumping to your feet and dancing along, you may be listening to up-and-coming country music star Conner Sweeny.
Sweeny was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, but found himself in the Greenville, South Carolina, area at the start of his performance career. Though, Sweeny has told multiple sources that music has been a constant in his life since middle school.
Appearing in season 22 of NBC’s “The Voice,” Sweeny designated himself “Blake Shelton’s biggest fan,” and the country legend’s influence on the budding star’s tone and style is evident.
While studying parks, recreation and tourism management at Clemson, Sweeny headlined many tailgates, Saturday night bar scenes and organized concerts.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic restricted in-person performances in the Clemson area in 2020, Sweeny and his band, The Conner Sweeny Band, performed a live-streamed concert for Clemson students to watch safely from their homes.
As for his most popular original songs, Sweeny’s Clemson anthem “Tiger Town” sits at the No. 2 spot on his Spotify popular ranking, with his latest single “All She Wrote” taking the No. 1 spot.
With his popularity growing, Sweeny has taken his career back to his home state of Tennessee. In Nashville, Tennessee, Sweeny continues to chase his dreams of performing and staying true to his lifelong love of country music.
As much as we all love to see Sweeny’s career soaring to new heights in new cities, we look forward to each trip he takes back to Clemson for a visit.
